18th Century Dutch School Portrait of a Lady of Quality
 
An interesting portrait of a lady of quality, probably Dutch in origin.  Her clothing would suggest a date of around 1660.  However, I think it more likely to be a copy of an earlier work and date from the end of the eighteenth century. The original canvas has been lined and fitted to a replacement stretcher.  The process of canvas lining strengthens the original canvas but flattens the painting and also reduces the texture of the paint.  It is therefore difficult to be precise as to its age.
 
 
Condition
The canvas has been lined and fitted to a replacement stretcher.  There is evidence of repairs and overpainting.  Sold unframed.
