Géo BERNIER (1862-1918) Belgian School
Le pêcheur a la ligne
Geo Bernier was best known for his animal paintings, particularly horses and cattle. In this painting he has captured the fixed concentration of a fisherman perched on the edge of a riverbank. The painting is signed and dated 1911.
Bernier was born in Belgium; he studied at the l`Academie des Beaux Arts in Brussels. His work can be found in museums and galleries including Bruges, Brussels, Elsene, Liège, Leuven, Spa and Doornik. In 1920 there was a large retrospective of 206 of his paintings in Brussels. Interestingly, this painting has a label with the number 8 bottom left and may well have been part of that exhibition.Condition
