Sergei Ivanovich OSIPOV (1915-1985) Russian Leningrad School
Ramasseurs des Foin
Osipov personified the essence of the Leningrad School with his paintings of the Motherland. This is a particularly good example showing land workers gathering hay. Painted in 1962, initialled bottom left, probably in Russian cyrillic. The painting has provenance from an auction house in Troyes, France. A copy of the purchase invoice is available to the purchaser. The framer has affixed a label verso on the backboard which is probably a transcription of information on the original panel which has now been covered up.
A posthumous exhibition of his work took place in 1990 at the halls of the Leningrad Union of Artists. It is worth reading Osipov’s Wikipedia entry to truly appreciate the life of this remarkable artist.
Condition
In good bright original condition. The panel has a small crack across the bottom right corner, see images.
