St Ivo Patron Saint of Lawyers 19th Century Oil Painting
 
An enigmatic portrait of a lawyer staring longingly out of the window at distant horizons. He is surrounded by the tools of his trade, including an interesting device for applying wax seals. The painting dates from the mid nineteenth and could be a variation of the Rogier van der Weyden (c1450) portrait of St Ivo, the patron saint of Lawyers.
 
Condition
The stretcher lines are visible and there is slight craquelure to the paint surface. The original canvas has been laid on to board. There is minor touching up in places. The stylish modern frame has knocks and abrasions on the bottom edge.
